Helen is a VAT Consultant, having previously worked at HMRC's VAT Office (1986 - 1996), and at Inland Revenue. At HMRC, Helen spent time as a VAT inspector, auditing businesses in the City of London, ranging from sole traders to large multi-nationals. Between 1991 and 1996, Helen’s time was spent in HMRC’s Wembley office, as a Higher Officer specialising in the VAT control of some of the largest of businesses in the West London Area.

Helen left HMRC to join KPMG’s Social Economy Team in 1996, working with universities and colleges, housing associations and charities before moving on to HLB Kidsons, now Baker Tilly. During this time, much of Helen’s work was based around obtaining savings for organisations with restricted VAT recovery by reducing VAT on costs and partial exemption reviews. Helen continues to assist businesses in all sectors, but with a particular interest in the complexities of partial exemption.

As an accredited mediator, Helen particularly enjoys supporting clients in negotiations with HMRC, drawing on her own experiences as a visiting officer.
